3.54/5 (245 votes)Drumcliff (Droim Chliabh in Irish Gaelic) is a small village in County Sligo, renowned for its 11th-century remains. The village features a ruined monastery, a round tower and a host of ancient Celtic crosses! You won’t be disappointed!
The village of Drumcliff was built against the immense Ben Bulben, a mountain peaking at over 526m above sea level. Drumcliff’s location makes it an isolated village in the wilderness, and that’s something we love!
As for sightseeing, don’t miss the ruins of the ancient monastery dating back to around 575. It is said to have been founded by Saint Colomba, and still bears some traces of its construction (many crumbling walls, with a few sections still standing and pierced by window openings). You’ll also find a number of Celtic crosses dating from the 9th century.
