Visit Barley Lake

A wild lake, only accessible on foot

If you love wild, remote places, then Barley Lake is the perfect place to take a breath of fresh air! The site is about 7km from Glengarriff along the N71.

Please note, however, that the area around the lake is closed to vehicles. You’ll need your walking shoes to discover the shores and make the loop around the lake. (Bicycles are not recommended: some passages are impassable).

The walk itself begins at the small parking lot above Barley Lake, at the end of a narrow road. The trail makes a loop, allowing you to circumnavigate the lake in just a few hours.

Take care, however, as the road can be steep and winding. But it will take you up to 300 meters above sea level, offering incredible views of the countryside and lake.
