Beara Peninsula

The Beara Peninsula is one of the most beautiful peninsulas in all of Ireland. Located on the southwest coast of the island, it spans two counties: Kerry and County Cork, the latter holding the largest part of the peninsula. Crossed by two massive mountain ranges (the Caha Mountains and the Slieve Miskish Mountains), the peninsula offers a tourist route of about 195 km starting at Kenmare, passing over the summit of Healy Pass, crossing Allihies, Eyeries, and Ardgroom, and ending at Bantry Bay.

Visiting the Beara Peninsula

A tourist destination famous for its unique landscapes!

Simply put, the peninsula starts from Kenmare (Co. Kerry) and then descends to Glengarriff. Once the stronghold of the O’Sullivan Bere Clan, the Beara Peninsula is a place marked by Gaelic culture, as well as by its few remains, forts, and ruins scattered along the entire route.

Beyond these characteristics, the Peninsula was one of the main copper mining sites in the early 1930s. To tour it, we recommend exploring the peninsula via the Ring of Beara, a 195 km circuit very popular with tourists. Here is a brief overview of what awaits you if you travel the Peninsula in the “Kenmare – Bantry Bay” direction.
