Blessington Lakes is a magical place for lake and wilderness lovers! Situated to the west of the Wicklow Mountains National Park, the site offers visitors a wonderful waterside getaway!
The Blessington Lakes are quite recent: they were formed around 50 years ago, following the construction of the Poulaphouca dam and hydroelectric power station to supply water and energy to County Dublin.
These lakes offer a rich and unspoilt natural environment, which has contributed to the development of tourism in the Wicklow region. In fact, a luxury hotel and golf club have sprung up on its shores!
The area is also particularly popular with anglers who come to try their hand at gudgeon, trout and carp, whether fishing from the shore or by boat.
The place is authentic and rather quiet. Hikers are sure to appreciate the many well-marked footpaths, suitable for the whole family.
