If you’re fluent in English and have a passion for film, then we invite you to visit Cinéma Stella in Dublin. Far from being a standard cinema, the venue was named number 1 by TimeOut of the 50 best cinemas in the UK and Ireland. The reason: its exceptional setting and 1923 decor. On the program: art-deco lamps, soft red armchairs, sofas and beds for two… You’ll feel right at home… in a Year 20 atmosphere that’s sure to please everyone!
Cinema Stella in Dublin
The Stella cinema is located in Rathmines, Dublin.
When it opened in 1923, it was the largest cinema in Ireland, with a capacity of 1,283. A highly modern building for its time!
Over time, the Stella expanded, doubling its capacity in 1970 to serve as a concert venue.
Recently renovated, the venue offers an exceptional experience à la Gatsby The Magnificent. Just imagine: not only will you be able to settle comfortably into one of its leather armchairs (complete with table and dimmed lamp)… but you can also opt for a sofa, or a double bed, so that you can watch your film just like at home, with a cashmere plaid on your lap for optimum comfort!
Not to mention the grandiose architecture of the venue. It has 2 floors, and its vaulted ceiling, typical of the 1920s style, is an enchantment to behold.
As you can see, the Stella is a cinema that focuses on comfort and space. Forget the huddled rooms. Here, every viewer feels privileged, and can enjoy his or her film in unusual, cosy comfort.
But there is a cost to deserving such decadence. The Stella armchairs cost 19 euros each, while the luxury bed and sofas cost 38 euros for two… But let’s face it: it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience. (It’s a change from the huge, impersonal multiplexes we come across most of the time).
The icing on the cake: the establishment also boasts a chic, 100% art deco cocktail bar… as well as a magnificent restaurant, famous for its buttermilk chicken and cinnamon churros. There’s plenty to enjoy before or after a movie!
