Claremont beach is in the village of Howth (Co. Dublin). Located almost behind the station, it’s a great place to relax with the family, make sandcastles, stroll around at low tide and go for a swim. A pretty Irish beach well worth a visit!
Howth beach has the advantage of being a long beach. With its restaurants just a stone’s throw away, the beach is ideal for taking a break, strolling barefoot in the sand, looking for shells, or playing with the family, with kites, building castles…etc.
The sand at low tide is quite pleasant: firm, it allows you to walk around while hunting for razor clams buried under your feet (beware, seafood fishing regulations are very strict in Ireland).
The water is generally quite cold, but is more affordable in summer on hot sunny days. In such cases, putting your towel down on the spot promises a great time: the beach is rarely crowded, and a dip in the sea is very pleasant! What’s more, fans of snorkelling will be delighted: the beach attracts many fish that are great to watch.
Be careful not to venture too far, however, as currents are particularly strong offshore.
In any case, the beach has retained its wild environment, with its sand, rocks and breathtaking views over the Irish Sea. It’s a lovely spot to stop and rest before visiting a fish and seafood restaurant just a few yards away, and then continuing your tour of the village of Howth.
