Crom Castle (Gaelic: Caisleán na Croime) is a Northern Irish castle built in 1820 on the shores of Lough Erne in County Fermanagh. Situated on a 7.7km² estate, the château was built in pure Victorian style, and is one of the most imposing manor houses in the region!
Crom Castle was built on behalf of the Crichton family, a wealthy family of earls who lived in the area from 1609. Set in a pretty wooded estate, the grounds are also home to the ruins of an ancient castle built by the Balfour family, which is thought to predate the present castle. Only the tower house has stood the test of time, along with a few defensive walls… Don’t hesitate to take a look: the ruins are pretty cool!
Today, only the west wing of Crom Castle is open to visitors, and can be hired out for weddings, a week’s vacation or a long weekend for two or the whole family. You’ll enjoy pretty gardens planted with trees, cosy rooms decorated with period furniture, and a typical 19th-century retro ambience…
The estate also boasts a barnyard, a farm shed, a tea room, a church and a school. Buildings that plunge you into the world of yesteryear, while enjoying a sense of welcome and inimitable Irish conviviality…
