Dún Conor (also known as“Dún Conchuir” in Irish Gaelic) is a prehistoric Irish fort, located on the island of Inishmaan in the Aran Islands archipelago. Built on the highest point of the island, it offers exceptional views over the whole of Inishmaan and Galway Bay! Inishmaan’s most interesting tourist attraction!

Visit Dún Conor

A ringfort dating from the first millennium B.C.

Although there’s a considerable grey area surrounding this archaeological site, researchers believe that Dún Conor dates back to the first or second millennium BC.

At that time, sea levels were lower and the Aran Islands were part of the mainland.

The site resembles an elliptical fort, with an interior measuring approximately 69 m from north to south, and 35 m from east to west.

Although smaller than the famous fort of Dún Aengus (located on Inishmore), the latter has thicker walls, reaching up to 6 meters in places.

It is divided into 4 successive terraces, served by staircases.

Although the site is thousands of years old, it is one of the best-preserved ringforts on the Aran Islands! You can easily recognize its original architecture, structure and organization.

One of the island’s major sites!
