No, you’re not dreaming: Enniskillen Castle is a Northern Irish castle that looks just like a fairytale castle! A magical, authentic place, and one of the places to visit if you’re ever in County Fermanagh!
An architectural marvel, Enniskillen Castle is located in the heart of the village of the same name.
Built in the 15th century, it is the pride of its inhabitants and boasts a distinctive Anglo-Norman style, with 2 symmetrical towers overlooking the local river.
One of these, known as the “Watergate”, offers a breathtaking view of the east of the city from its summit, overlooking the banks of Enniskillen. An ideal angle for keeping an eye on the surrounding area!
You can climb up to the top, and enjoy the view through the many loopholes and windows.
The visit is rather pleasant: the castle itself has been converted into 2 separate museums. One is devoted to regional archaeology, with exhibits on the history of County Fermanagh and the archaeological discoveries made… The other museum is dedicated to Enniskillen’s military past.
In short, a must-see if you’re passing through!
