At Kilbaha in County Clare, there’s a strange row of stones facing the ocean. Named “Grave of the Yellow Men”, it is the grave of Irish fishermen who tragically died at sea… But even today, the burial site still holds its share of mysteries…
The Grave of the Yellow Men is no ordinary tomb. According to local legend, this is the burial place of six men nicknamed “the yellow men” by the locals.
Their bodies are believed to have washed up in Kilbaha Bay in the 19th century, while they were fishing offshore. However, the circumstances of their deaths remain unknown.
These men were then buried here, near Kilbaha… without their bodies ever being identified!
This grave is therefore the burial place of unknown fishermen. It is a vibrant symbol of the great power of the Atlantic Ocean, and of man’s humility in the face of the force of the elements.
Surrounded by greenery and typical Irish landscapes, the “Grave of the Yellow Men” is a place of peace. Visitors can gather their thoughts, meditate or simply enjoy the serenity.
