Hilden Brewery is without doubt the oldest microbrewery in Ireland! Founded at the beginning of the 19th century, this brewery produces quality beers, without commercial overkill or advertising campaigns… Here, their beers are known exclusively by word of mouth, and for their exemplary quality! And it works!
If you’ve had enough of beers from the country’s big behemoths, then a visit to Hilden Brewery is well worth your while! You’ll be able to take a complete tour of the microbrewery, learn more about the different techniques used to brew Irish beer, and discover what’s behind the main registered designations.
The people there are very friendly and welcoming, and will even offer you a taste of some of their beers! You can buy some on the spot to bring home as souvenirs.
On the taste front, their beers are remarkable, with subtle, often caramelized tastes and a clever balance of bitterness.
For the time being, Hilden Brewery’s beers are hard to find in the shops. For a taste, visit the brewery, Molly’s Yard restaurant in Belfast or Hillside Irish Pub in Hillsborough. In moderation, as always.
