Kinsale James Fort is a superb 17th-century Irish fort on the outskirts of the village of Kinsale. Built opposite the River Bandon, it was once used to defend Kinsale harbour and control the comings and goings of boats.

Listed as a national monument, Jame’s Fort was a stronghold in the Irish Middle Ages. Built in 1602, it was enlarged and improved in 1607, and comprises a defensive enclosure and a bastion built around a square tower.
Magnificent, it was unfortunately damaged in 1690 after being blown up by Williamite forces.
It is said to have been abandoned as early as the 18th century, and since then it has been a magnificent open-air spectacle for walkers and visitors who come to admire its ruins! Access is free, and parking is easy (the site has free parking).
Possibility of entering the heart of the enclosure to gain a better understanding of the fort’s internal organization. Jame’s Fort offers an authentic, history-laden spectacle that’s sure to delight visitors!
