Jordan’s Castle is a Northern Irish castle located near the town of Ardglass in County Down. Unmistakable, it takes the form of a rectangular tower in relatively good condition. Although some parts of it are now in ruins, it still possesses the serious charm typical of Irish castles of the time!
Jordan’s Castle remains a historical mystery to this day. Its date of construction remains unknown, although it is suspected to have been built between the 14th and 15th centuries…
Rather imposing, it takes the form of a 4-storey tower linked by spiral staircases. The main living area was on the second floor, with tables, chairs and armchairs, as well as a fireplace to keep warm.
Architecturally speaking, the building has been modified several times, but is considered a true architectural treasure. The castle also played an important defensive role during the Tyrone Rebellion: its owner at the time, Simon Jordan, used the castle to defend the territory for 3 years.
The visit is free and quite enjoyable. You won’t want to miss it: it’s right in the center of Ardglass!
