Le Kilkea Castle - Elena - cc

Kilkea Castle is a superb Irish castle in County Kildare. Located 5km from Castledermot, the castle’s origins date back to the 12th century. The setting is sublime, and the building exceptional!

Visit Kilkea Castle

Kilkea Castle is currently closed to visitors. Converted into a hotel in the 20th century, it unfortunately suffered from the crisis of 2008, and is currently closed and offered for sale.

This will prevent you from visiting the interior for the time being. However, you can still admire its exterior façade, with its typically Anglo-Norman architecture, built by Hugues de Lacy in 1180.What’s more, the castle is the subject of a strange legend: Garrett Og Fitzgerald, one of the building’s owners, is said to have practised magic within the castle… Enough to feed our imaginations!
