Magilligan Point is a peninsula in County Derry, Northern Ireland. Magnificent, it offers magnificent coastal landscapes, between land and sea. It faces County Donegal’s Inishowen peninsula. It’s almost as if they could come together!
Magilligan Point is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and Lough Foyle, a local lake. Magnificent, the tip of the Peninsula is home to a beach, a prison (founded in 1972 and still in operation) and the Magilligan Martello Tower, a tower dating back to the Napoleonic Wars and still in perfect condition.
The panorama at the end of the Peninsula is well worth the detour: don’t hesitate to take a stroll, venture onto the beach (the Magilligan strand), admire the Martello tower… in short: savour the moment and the authentic beauty of the surrounding landscapes!
The Peninsula is one of those undiscovered, undiscovered places for tourists. This is a major advantage, allowing you to enjoy the area without the hassle of buses and cars.
The only black spot on the Peninsula is the HMP Magilligan prison, which somewhat disfigures the beauty of the area. No need to stop or linger: this all-concrete, barbed-wire establishment clearly serves the area.
It’s a shame, but don’t worry: the rest of Madilligan Point is well worth a visit, as long as you don’t hang around the prison!
Possibility of taking your car to the Inishowen Peninsula in County Donegal by ferry. This means you can reach the town of Greencastle without having to travel any further! Simple, fast and economical. An easy way to drive from Northern Ireland to the Republic of Ireland.
A great way to cross a beautiful Peninsula and travel easily from one territory to another.
