It all began with Oliver Hughes and Liam LaHart, two cousins with a passion for beer and brewing. In 1983, the two decided to set up their first brewery, Harty’s, in Blessington, County Wicklow. They produce a traditional cask ale, malted and lightly hopped. Success followed, but unfortunately the brewery was unable to compete with the industry giants. They then went bankrupt.
But nothing stops the 2 Irish cousins. In 1996, they put their project back on track by opening a micro-brewery in Dublin called the Porterhouse Brewery Co. This time, they produce independent beers. Their range extends from full-bodied stouts to lighter lagers. This time, the sauce takes: it’s a success. So much so that the brewery had to move to expand. She then set down her barrels in Blanchardstown, County Dublin. From then on, their beers were sold in nearby Irish pubs and exported all over Europe.
The public appreciates his beers, and finds in them an originality never seen before! Porterhouse Brewery Co. brews Oyster Stout, a beer made with fresh oysters! (Don’t be too quick to judge: it’s definitely worth a taste).
Over the years, the brewery has established itself as a reliable name in Ireland and the rest of the world. So much so, that the establishment was even able to open 2 Irish pubs in Manhattan!
