To enjoy it, you’ll need to reach Achill Island in County Mayo, then head for the north-western tip of the island. And don’t forget your hiking boots: Saddle Head can only be reached on foot, using your knees and crampons!

Rest assured, there are marked trails to Saddle Head. Their level of difficulty varies according to the starting point. The island, though relatively small, offers a multitude of trails and paths, some more direct and others more winding, offering panoramic views and varied hiking experiences.

However, access to Saddle Head is best reserved for sports enthusiasts and hardy walkers. Avoid taking it with children, who may have difficulty with the gradient.

Once you’ve reached the summit, the view is breathtaking! You’ll see the tip of Saddle Head stretching out below you, as it juts out into the ocean. A small glacial lake, Bunafreva Lake, nestles below, surrounded by green expanses.
