La Sheep on the Road - William Murphy - cc

The Sheep on the Road is a sculpture located in the heart of Belfast, Northern Ireland. Built on the banks of the River Lagan, on Lanyon Place, it depicts six sheep and their shepherd. A sculpture that’s as astonishing as it is amusing, demonstrating the attachment of Northern Irish people to their history and culture!

A sculpture that pays tribute to Lanyon Place

No, you’re not dreaming: bronze sheep and a life-size shepherd occupy Lanyon Square in Belfast. A tribute above all, since this was the site of the old cattle market!

But that’s not all: this sculpture is also intended as a tribute to the cultural and social heritage of the whole of Ireland. It reminds the people of Belfast that livestock farming is still an important part of the Irish economy!

Created in 1991, the sculpture was signed by sculptor Deborah Brown. Access is, of course, free of charge, so we leave it to your imagination as to what photos you’d like to take!
