This is a former Franciscan convent founded in 1454 by Fitzmaurice Fitzgerald and Johanna Fitzgerald (Anglo-Normans, Earls of Kildare). This magnificent castle is located on the grounds of Desmond Castle, an equally touristic medieval castle! It’s a popular spot, appreciated for its beauty straight out of the ages. The Franciscan convent of Adare is located on the east bank of the River Maigue, opposite the medieval castle of the Counts of Desmond. Its unique location on the Adare Manor golf course means you can admire it up close while teasing the green!
