Don’t let the long name fool you! The De Valera Museum and Bruree Heritage Centre is a rather interesting museum, entirely dedicated to the life of Eamon De Valera (1882-1975), one of Ireland’s most famous politicians. Before becoming President of the Republic of Ireland, he was a leading figure in the fight for Irish independence.

The museum is located in the village of Bruree, south of Limerick city. With its exhibitions and extensive collection of personal objects, the museum traces the life and times of Eamon De Valera, a man who helped shape the face of Ireland today.
The location of this museum is rather unusual, as it has set up its exhibits in the very house where Eamon De Valera grew up.
You’ll discover every significant episode in his life, from his childhood, through his role in the Easter Rising, the negotiation of the Treaty of London (partitioning Ireland in 2), his presidency many years later, to his death in 1975.
The Heritage Centre uses audio visuals, graphic panels, exhibits and personal memorabilia. A rich visit for those with a basic knowledge of Irish history.
