Howth Lighthouse is a pretty lighthouse in the village of Howth, less than a kilometer from its harbor. A must-see, with its concrete facade, red collar and white roof, the lighthouse is still in operation today, and simply signals the Irish coast to approaching boats.
Although the lighthouse is not open to visitors, it can still be admired from the harbour, or via the network of paths that run alongside Howth. You’ll discover a rather charming lighthouse, measuring over ten meters, with a small adjoining building where the keepers can take a nap and eat on site.
Note that you can get close to it, but not inside. You’ll be able to make out its automatic system, responsible for illuminating Dublin Bay every night.
Still in operation, it supplements a second lighthouse, also in working order and located on Howth: the Baily Lighthouse. In pairs, they cover a larger area to guide approaching vessels.
