A museum with one of the most extensive collections on Irish history

The Hunt Museum moved into Limerick’s Customs House in 1997, thanks to John and Gertrude Hunt, the generous donors behind the museum. Admission is free (as with most museums in Ireland), and it takes at least a good hour and a half to get round it…

Its collection is truly remarkable, with valuable objects spanning the whole of Irish history. (Which makes it the perfect way to discover Ireland’s past).

Among his collection, you will find some particularly exceptional pieces, including :

  • Neolithic arrowheads and axes
  • ceramics
  • the famous Cashel bell (9th century)
  • Celtic crosses (5th to 13th centuries), including the Antrim cross
  • Dublin porcelain
  • Leonardo da Vinci’s bronze horse
  • the crucifix worn by Mary Stuart at her execution
  • or paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries
