Inishtrahull Lighthouse is an Irish lighthouse located on Inishtrahull Island, off the coast of County Donegal. Working in tandem with the Tory Island lighthouse, it is an invaluable asset for safe local navigation. Its location, facing the ocean alone, lends it a certain charm that never fails to impress!
The Inishtrahull Lighthouse dates from 1812 and was commissioned by the Royal Navy. However, it was completely rebuilt in the 20th century to meet safety requirements.
Recognizable by its narrow white column, the lighthouse is 28 metres high and has been fully automated since April 30, 1987. Set in magnificent surroundings, the lighthouse stands alone and isolated, but can be reached on foot. The only disappointment is that you won’t be able to go inside the building, which is closed to visitors.
Too bad, but there’s nothing to stop you admiring it from the outside! What’s more, the area around the lighthouse is pretty nice, with a wealth of seascapes and walks to enjoy! Don’t forget your walking shoes: the area is ideal!
