The Loop Head Lighthouse stands on the cliffs of Loop Head in County Clare. Magnificent, it stands at the tip of the cliffs, facing an impressive view of the ocean and its sometimes raging nature.
Loop Head Lighthouse is located south-east of Kilkee, on the northern Dingle Peninsula. Magnificent and in perfect condition, the lighthouse is owned by the Irish Lighthouse Commissioners.
Fully automated, it takes the form of a whitewashed column and buildings that once served as lighthouse keepers’ homes. These outbuildings are now open to visitors in autumn, winter and spring.
Here you’ll discover the history of the lighthouse, the precarious daily life of the keepers in those days, and how the Loop Head Ligthouse lens works today. Count on less than 5€ for the visit, which is guided and has the merit of being fascinating!
Added to this is the fact that the site is magnificent: the lighthouse faces the ocean, and can sometimes withstand unimaginable storms! It’s best to visit on a sunny day! However, don’t forget to cover up; the wind blows hard on the cliffs!
