In Belfast, the Orange movement remains particularly strong. Many parades are still held in the town every summer, and many members belong to the Orange Order. That’s why Belfast is home to the Museum of Orange Heritage, a museum dedicated entirely to the history of the movement, its culture and traditions.
The Orange Order is one of Belfast’s recurring historical institutions. It is a Protestant fraternal society, founded in 1795, dedicated to meeting the objectives set by Protestantism.
It is said to have been created following the victory of King William III of Orange at the Battle of the Boyne. The brotherhood still exists today, and every year commemorates this historic victory by marching through the streets of Belfast…
The Orange Order has its own museum, and it offers a particularly interesting experience. Opened in 2015, you’ll discover the history of the Orange Order, its culture and traditions. Many antique objects are on display, including items belonging to King William III, dating back to 1689.
Everything is clearly explained, and you’ll learn more about the historical parades and events that still take place today.
The museum also has a research center for those wishing to trace their family history within the Orange Order.
