Rathlin East Lighthouse is a Northern Irish lighthouse, located to the east on the island of Rathlin (Co. Antrim). The site faces the Canal du Nord, the coast of Northern Ireland and Scotland. Still in operation, it is one of the island’s major tourist attractions.

Fans of authentic, picturesque lighthouses are in for a treat! Rathlin East Lighthouse is a historic lighthouse, built in 1856. Standing 27 metres high, it is easily recognized by its immaculate white façade and black band.
Still in operation, it has since been automated and ensures the safety of approaching ships sailing between Northern Ireland and Scotland.
Although modernized in its operation, the lighthouse is a pure example of a traditional building. The latter is equipped with stone houses: this is where the lighthouse keepers used to stay when human intervention was required.
Today, the beacon emits 4 white flashes, separated by 2.3 seconds, every 20 seconds. This is done automatically.
Although the lighthouse is only partially open to visitors, we recommend that you at least admire it from the outside: its view of the ocean is breathtaking, and its atmosphere will give you the impression of being lost at the end of the world, far from civilization!
