Museums in Ireland
Valentia Heritage Centre

Don’t be fooled by the old-fashioned look of the Valentia Heritage Centre. Far from being a recent addition, this museum has an authentic charm all of its own! It will take you deep into the history of Valentia Island!

Visit the Valentia Heritage Centre

A museum in an old Valentia Island building

Admittedly, this is not a youthful museum, and there’s a bit of everything here, but some of the exhibits are pretty interesting! Starting with a complete exhibition on the daily life of the island’s inhabitants at the time… Folklore, cultural events, work and art of fishing, local education… You’ll learn all about the daily lives of people in days gone by!

And don’t miss their exhibition dedicated to the transatlantic telegraph. Valentia was the first island to make history by setting up an international communications system! Samuel Morse, Charles Bright and Cyrus Field were the most notable men to work on the project.
