One of Leixlip’s must-see attractions is the Wondefull Barn, a large tower in the shape of a corkscrew. Built in 1743, this strange, picturesque tower once served as a granary for storing local food and cereal crops. You can visit the site and enjoy a superb panoramic view of Leixlip!
The Wonderfull Barn is nothing more than an 18th-century grain silo. Built in the middle of the village of Leixlip, it stands next to an Irish farm and offers a rather unusual sight with its winding, spiral staircase!
Located on the Castletown House estate, the Wonderfull Barn stands 22 metres high, in a conical shape that tapers as it reaches for the sky. Its spiral staircases seem to defy logic. In fact, the tower was considered an architectural folly from the outset!
A visit to the tower is free of charge, and offers breathtaking views of Leixlip and the Castletown House estate from the top. A must-see: the Wonderfull Barn is the coolest sight in the village!
