Keem Beach, an Irish beach on Achill Island, has just been named the 11th most beautiful beach in the world. A pretty good score, considering that most tourists are primarily looking for beaches with palm trees, coconuts and turquoise waters with turtles…
As it happens, Achill Island’s Keem Beach almost beat them all in the rankings! It has to be said that this Irish beach in County Mayo, Republic of Ireland, is a little paradise in itself: immaculate beach, transparent water and blue lagoon… Admittedly, there are no palm trees and the water is not very warm, but the beach is nonetheless a paradise!
As for turtles, there’s little chance of finding any, but the beach is home to a magnificent ecosystem, and it’s not uncommon to come across whale sharks, reputed to be magnificent and harmless! The fish are plentiful, and the spot is popular with surfers in search of new waves!

The icing on the cake is Keem Beach, a secluded beach in the heart of a wild, rural landscape, with rugged cliffs and verdant expanses contrasting magnificently with the beach’s white sand and turquoise waters. Visitors who have had the pleasure of stopping here have a feeling of being lost at the end of the world, isolated from civilization: a pleasant sensation for those in search of tranquillity!
That’s why Keem Beach has just been voted the 11th most beautiful beach in the world.
