Brexit continues to unsettle European economic players. Ryanair is no exception and has publicly expressed its concerns, stating that without an agreement, the Irish low-cost giant might have to suspend its flights to the United Kingdom as early as 2019. This scenario would have significant consequences for Ryanair and would likely affect other European airlines as well.
This statement was a clear warning shot aimed at London. Strongly established in the UK, the airline currently serves 19 airports across the country, enabling over 120 million passengers to travel via their European connections.
“Today, you can fly freely between the United Kingdom and Europe, but we are considering a scenario where tomorrow, you might not be able to. Whether for a few days, weeks, or months, no one knows at this time,” said Neil Sorahan, CFO of the Irish airline.
Ryanair is therefore urging negotiations with London, concerned about losing a valuable advantage due to Brexit. The talks will likely take time, but Michael O’Leary, Ryanair’s CEO, remains confident, convinced that an agreement could potentially be reached by 2019… For now, speculation is rife: it is now up to London to make its position clear.
