Renowned Irish actor Colin Farrell was spotted filming in Purteen Harbour, on Achill Island, Ireland. The latter is currently shooting “The Banshees of Inisheer”, a brand new film to be directed by British director Martin McDonagh. Colin Farrell will star alongside fellow Irishman Brendan Gleeson, with whom he previously collaborated on “Bon Baisers de Bruges” (also directed by Martin McDonagh).
Director Martin McDonagh specializes in offbeat films with a wry sense of humor. And this new film is no exception: it tells the story of two long-time friends (played by Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson), who don’t know how to react when one of them suddenly decides to end the friendship.
This decision will have dramatic consequences for the two former friends…
The story takes place in the heart of Ireland… To be precise, on the island of Inisheer, in the Aran Islands archipelago, a mecca for local tourism.
But Achill Island in County Mayo, Ireland, also appears to have been used as a filming location. The proof: Colin Farrell was spotted on site recording scenes for the film. A few photos have already been leaked, and the actor appears in period costume, with horse and cart: a hint that the action takes place in the past… Perhaps at the beginning of the 20th century…
In any case, the decision to shoot on Achill Island is easy to explain: the island is sumptuous and offers breathtaking scenery. Considered a must-see tourist destination, the spot is renowned for its wild landscapes, breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean, and vertiginous cliffs. It’s enough to make you feel far from civilization!

The Irish actor’s presence here has already created quite a stir on Achill Island. The local population is proud to welcome Colin Farrell, and the first images have created genuine interest in the upcoming film… The public is already very receptive!
As for Brendan Gleeson, he has yet to be seen. But it won’t be long now: the Irish are already looking forward to seeing them both on screen again… It has to be said that the duo have a real chemistry: a relationship that helped make “Bons Baisers de Bruges” a real success.
Let’s hope the same is true of this brand-new film!
