The Irish Government Considers Localized Lockdowns Highly Likely

Dublin and Limerick Face the Threat of a New Lockdown

In Ireland, the coronavirus reproduction rate is rapidly increasing. Dublin and Limerick are currently the hotspots with the highest transmission rates. In response, the Irish government is exploring all options to regain control over the epidemic and does not rule out localized lockdowns.

As a result, these two Irish cities could face new restrictions such as school, nursery, and daycare closures; bans on non-essential travel; and encouragement of remote work.

Here are the main measures that the Irish capital and the city of Limerick might be subjected to.

Several meetings are scheduled for today to decide the best strategy to contain the virus, with Irish scientists and policymakers expected to weigh in.

Residents of Dublin and Limerick remain concerned, eagerly awaiting Friday to learn about the measures that will affect their coming weeks.

To recall, new Covid-19 cases reached 307 yesterday, with more than half located in Dublin. Although these numbers are much lower than those recorded in France, Spain, or Italy, Ireland is worried about this resurgence and aims to contain it as quickly as possible.

This is a situation to watch closely, as it could significantly impact daily life for Dubliners and Limerick residents in the coming days—unless entire counties are locked down for better control of the situation.
