New easing for travelers! Vaccinated individuals arriving in the Republic of Ireland will no longer need to present a negative PCR test starting Wednesday, January 6, 2022. To recall, a negative PCR test had been required since December 3, alongside the presentation of the European health pass. This measure is now obsolete and should simplify travel requirements to Ireland!
The Republic of Ireland Eases Its Regulations
The Mandatory PCR Test for Vaccinated Travelers Was Mainly Intended to “Slow Down” the Spread of the Omicron Variant in Ireland
This change will please travelers planning to visit Ireland! From now on, tourists with a complete vaccination schedule can skip the previous PCR test required before entering the country.
Travelers will only need to present a valid vaccination certificate and complete the Passenger Locator Form. This genuine relief is likely to encourage more bookings for Ireland! Tourism on the Emerald Isle could see a significant boost!
Explaining this decision, Irish Prime Minister Michael Martin stated that the mandatory PCR test for vaccinated travelers aimed to slow the importation of the Omicron variant into Ireland. However, the variant now accounts for over 96% of all Covid-19 cases in the Republic of Ireland.
For the Prime Minister, the measure is therefore outdated.
Important: Presenting a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before arrival remains mandatory for unvaccinated travelers.
