From Monday, May 16, masks will no longer be mandatory in airports and on planes operating within the European Union. This marks a significant step towards a true return to normalcy after the Covid-19 pandemic that brought the world to a standstill for two years. The decision, made by EASA, now gives travelers the freedom to choose whether or not to wear a mask. This easing of rules is expected to boost travel within European airspace… including to Ireland!

A Safe Environment Thanks to Advanced Filtration Systems

European airports will take a new step next Monday. From then on, travelers will be free to fly without the obligation to wear a mask. The health situation in Europe now allows safe travel without additional protocols.

This decision has been welcomed by the aviation sector, which has reassured concerned travelers: passengers can travel with confidence. The air filtration systems on board planes are highly efficient and provide a safe environment.

However, it should be noted that mask-wearing may still be recommended (though not mandatory) for vulnerable individuals. Additionally, policies may vary depending on certain airlines, which may consider some destinations to carry higher risks than others.

EASA emphasized that mask-wearing should now be a matter of personal responsibility. In other words: everyone is free to choose, but anyone coughing or showing symptoms should consider wearing a mask out of civility.
