The mood is optimistic in Ireland. After months of lockdown, the country is currently easing its restrictions. Irish residents can now travel between counties—a first in 5 months! But that’s not all: galleries, Irish museums, libraries, and other cultural spaces are reopening starting today! Additionally, up to 3 households, or 6 people, can meet outdoors. This is sure to bring back some cheer to the Irish people!
Ireland Eases Its Rules
Museums Reopen Their Doors, and Life Slowly Returns to the Emerald Isle…
Gone are the 5km travel limits: Irish residents are now free to move across the entire country. This is the result of an effective lockdown over the past 5 months and the national vaccination campaign.
It seems the Irish government is betting on a gradual reopening of shops and services. Thus:
- barbers and hairdressers are reopening,
- outdoor businesses such as garden centers can welcome customers,
- other non-essential shops can open by appointment or offer click and collect services,
- up to 15 people can attend organized outdoor gatherings,
- mass and religious services can resume with a maximum capacity of 50 people,
- public transport capacity has also been increased to 50%.
These welcome improvements will allow the Irish to regain a sense of normal life. It’s a heartening boost for the population, inspiring hope for better days ahead!
Although Covid cases are still being recorded across the country, the trend appears to be declining: hospital pressure is easing… and as of May 7, over 1,799,190 Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered in Ireland. This significant progress should allow the Irish to enjoy a wonderful summer—and potentially reopen quickly to international tourism!
