Ireland has just updated its “Green List.” To recap, this list identifies countries allowed to travel to Ireland without mandatory quarantine. Currently, only 7 countries are permitted to travel freely to Ireland… This list is expected to be phased out soon, replaced by a brand-new rating system…
A Shrinking List
New Evaluation System Expected by October
Ireland continues its relentless fight against COVID-19, updating its Green List of authorized countries almost weekly. This time, only the following countries are allowed to enter Ireland without quarantine:
- Cyprus
- Finland
- Germany
- Iceland
- Latvia
- Lithuania
- Poland
For others, travel to Ireland is possible but requires mandatory quarantine, with only essential movements permitted.
Please note: five countries on the updated list—Cyprus, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, and Lithuania—currently have some restrictions on arrivals from other jurisdictions, including Ireland. We recommend checking local rules before traveling!
Replacing the Green List
By October, the Irish government plans to replace the “Green List” system with a simpler color-coded system.
The concept: each country will be assigned a color based on the severity and rate of COVID-19 transmission. To summarize:
- Green will allow travelers to enter Ireland without quarantine. (Green countries will have fewer than 25 cases per 100,000 people.)
- Orange will also allow entry without quarantine but travelers will be subject to monitoring. (Orange countries will have fewer than 50 cases per 100,000 people.)
- Red will require mandatory quarantine upon arrival in Ireland. (Red countries will have more than 50 cases per 100,000 people.)
This new system aims to simplify the assessment of European countries. It will be regularly updated based on each country’s specific situation and is expected to launch in October.
