She’s beautiful, popular and talented… Andrea Corr is one of Ireland’s best-known celebrities! This Irish singer is in fact the leader of the Irish group “The Corrs”, formed in the 1990s and still active today. His subtle interpretations, a clever blend of pop and traditional Irish music, have earned him worldwide success!
Andrea Jane Corr was born on May 17, 1974 in Dundalk (County Louth), Republic of Ireland. She grew up in a family environment where music was at the heart of everything.
She grew up with 2 sisters (Caroline, born in 1973 and Sharon, born in 1970) and a brother (Jim, born in 1964). She was then the smallest in the family.
His parents, who were very attached to music, never ceased to pass on their passion to their children, who soon proved to be excellent musicians.
Like her brother and sisters, Andrea learned to play the piano at an early age, and was keen to learn the tin whistle, a typical Irish flute. She also loves to sing and has excellent academic results.
Passionate about music, the Irish siblings decided to form a family band in the 1990s. They then took the name “The Corrs”.
In the beginning, it was a family affair. They play at McManus, a family-owned Irish pub in Dundalk. Nothing seemed to predispose them to become one of the most popular Irish bands of the late 90s and early 2000s!
The group soon began composing a large number of songs. Andrea Corr adds her own personal touch, playing the tin whistle (a typically Irish instrument) and offering some lovely interpretations. She also writes lyrics, sings and plays the tin whistle.
The Corrs now have a distinctive sound. He combines traditional Irish music with elements of pop and rock, creating a distinctive sound that captivates a wide audience.
The Corrs – Forgiven Not Forgotten
Their first album, “Forgiven, Not Forgotten,” was released in 1995 and was a runaway success.
This opus is a breath of fresh air in the musical landscape of the time. It highlights their talent for fusing musical genres while retaining an authentic Irish flavor. With titles like “Runaway” and “The Right Time,” the album was an international success, propelling the Corrs to the forefront of the music scene.
The band toured and released a string of albums, even winning awards such as the Brit Award.
The second album, “Talk on Corners,” released in 1997, followed in the footsteps of its predecessor in terms of commercial and critical success. The band went on to collaborate with a host of renowned artists, including Bono of U2 (with the song “When the stars go blue”) and Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones.
Like any musical career, the Corrs’ career also has its ups and downs. The band decided to take a break in 2006, with everyone concentrating on personal and family projects. However, the lure of the music was too strong to ignore, and they returned in 2015 with a new album, “White Light,” which was warmly received by fans and critics alike.

After making her mark on the music world with her siblings in The Corrs, Andrea Corr has also pursued a rather successful solo career.
Also, she went solo in 2007 with her debut album, “Ten Feet High.” The project is produced by Nellee Hooper, who has worked with renowned artists such as Madonna and Björk.
This album is a real turning point, offering a more personal side of Andrea, far removed from the Celtic influences of The Corrs. The single “Shame On You” attracts particular attention and sets the tone for this new solo adventure.
But the album lacks promotion. However, it managed to break into the Top 100 in Germany, Ireland, the UK and Switzerland. In France, the album made a particularly discreet entry in its first week of release, leaving the Top the following week. A little flop, but that doesn’t discourage her.
In 2011, Andrea returned with “Lifelines,” an album featuring covers of lesser-known songs by artists such as Roy Orbison, Kirsty MacColl and The Velvet Underground. The album allows Andrea to demonstrate her ability to breathe new life into existing works, while letting her own sensibility shine through.
It would be a big mistake to reduce Andrea Corr’s career to just that. The young Irishwoman has also made several forays into the world of cinema !
She made her film debut in “The Commitments” in 1991, and since then has continued to add to her artistic CV with roles in film (in Boys and Girls from County Clare) and theater.
Her presence on stage and screen reveals another facet of her talent, demonstrating that she is much more than just a musician and singer.
In 1999, Andrea and her family were faced with a terrible tragedy: the death of their mother, Jean, from lung disease.
This event had a profound impact on Andrea and her siblings. They often spoke of their mother’s influence on their love of music and their careers. Jean Corr was a talented musician herself, and her death has left a huge gap in their lives.
Andrea has never hidden the fact that she was devastated by this loss. She would nevertheless have found solace in composition and music.
Andrea Corr is married to Brett Desmond, son of Irish businessman Dermot Desmond. The couple married in 2009 in an intimate ceremony in Ireland, attended by a number of celebrities, including U2’s Bono. The couple have two children, which testifies to a stable and fulfilling family life. Brett, far removed from the world of show business, seems the perfect complement to Andrea’s sometimes hectic life.
For Andrea, family has always been a central pillar. Even after the break from The Corrs, she remained very close to her siblings, Sharon, Caroline and Jim. Their strong family bond has been emphasized many times in interviews, and is palpable when they perform together on stage.
