Moya Brennan (also known as Máire Brennan in Irish Gaelic) is an Irish singer as well as a brilliant harpist. Well-known in Ireland, her traditional music is typically Irish, with influences close to those of Scotland’s Loreena McKennitt. We love his deep voice and his instrumentations: his music will take you on a journey across Ireland without you leaving home! For the record, she’s also Enya’s sister!

Moya Brennan biography

Ireland’s best-known solo singer!

Moya Brennan was born on August 4, 1952 into an Irish family with a passion for music. She soon tried her hand at singing and playing the Celtic harp. In the 1970s, she began singing with the group Clannad. The band is a family affair, made up of his brothers Ciarán and Pól Brennan and his uncles Noel and Padraig Duggan.

In 1979, her younger sister Enya joined the group Clannad, before embarking on a solo career as an international singer in 1983.

The group Clannad went on to score a big hit with the single “In a lifetime”, in which Moya sings a duet with the famous Bono, lead singer of U2. The group, and Moya, were propelled to the forefront of the Irish and international scene. Of particular interest is Moya, whose inimitable voice is a wonderful tribute to Ireland’s musical heritage.

Moya then tried her hand at solo albums, and soon became Ireland’s best-selling artist. Considered a veritable institution in her homeland, she has the talent to revisit her country’s musical heritage, experimenting with folk forays and trying her hand at a variety of styles, from new age to Celtic music in the broadest sense.

She is often referred to as Ireland’s Loreena McKennitt. It’s a nice comparison that’s sure to please her!
