Saoirse Ronan is an Irish actress born on April 12, 1994 in New York, USA. She is the daughter of Paul Ronan, an Irish actor, and Monica Brennan, a housewife. A rising star on the film scene, the young woman is one of a growing number of Irish talents making a name for themselves on the international scene. Saoirse Ronan’s life and career

Early starts

Saoirse Ronan began her acting career at the age of nine, appearing in an episode of the Irish TV series “The Clinic”.

In 2007, she landed her first major film role in Joe Wright’s historical drama “Reviens-moi”. The film was a critical and commercial success, earning Ronan her first Oscar nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category.

International revelation

Ronan continued to establish herself as a leading actress over the following years. She has received rave reviews for her performances in films such as “The Lovely Bones” (2009), “Hanna” (2011), “The Grand Budapest Hotel” (2014),”Brooklyn” (2015), “Lady Bird” (2017), “Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots” (2018), “Doctor March’s Daughters” (2019)…etc.

Oscars

Ronan has been nominated for four Oscars, for “Come Back to Me” (2007), “Brooklyn” (2015), “Lady Bird” (2017) and “Little Women” (2019). She won the Oscar for Best Actress for her role as Jo March in “Doctor March’s Daughters”.

Other activities

Ronan is also a social activist. She is an ambassador for the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children and for Home Sweet Home, an anti-poverty campaign.
