The Irish Setter

A gentle, affectionate dog, ideal for hunting!

The Irish Setter is descended from the ancient spaniel or braque. This rather noble breed of dog is widely distributed throughout Europe, and Ireland is home to numerous breeding centers.

There are exactly two types:

  • the Red Irish Setter (whose coat is entirely chestnut in color)
  • the white and red Irish Setter (whose coat alternates between red and white)

Very athletic and sporty, this dog is medium-sized, with pronounced muscles. Other attributes include floppy ears and a fine coat. Its character is playful, energetic and affectionate. These highly intelligent dogs have a real talent for hunting and are very easy to train.
