The Waterboys band was born in 1983. With a group of friends, Mike Scott, a brilliant musician, decided to found a brand-new band designed to blend musical genres into a Celtic rock&folk style. The mix works quite well, and the heavy guitars blend perfectly with the fiddles, Irish bagpipes and tin whistle. Most of the lyrics and tracks were written by Mike Scott himself, who never ceased to imbue his lyrics with spirituality and literary references. The band has always been critically acclaimed, and has influenced many artists such as the no less famous U2.
Career-wise, the band experienced a number of conflicts and mood swings over the years, leading to their first split in 1991, much to the regret of their fans. But the break-up was short-lived, and the Waterboys reformed in 2000.
