Recipe: Guinness fish and chips

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Guinness beer
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 egg
  • All-purpose flour
  • 4 fillets of pollack, cod or haddock

Preparation

  • Mix the beer, baking soda, salt, pepper and egg in a bowl.
  • Beat with a whisk, then gradually add enough flour to obtain a thick, non-slumping dough that adheres easily to a wooden spoon.
  • Heat the oil in a deep fryer.
  • Rinse your fish fillets, dry them and roll them in flour. Shake off any excess and dip into the paste to cover the fish completely.
  • Dip the fish in the hot oil while holding it with tongs. Wait 15 seconds, then drop it completely into the oil (this will prevent the fish from sticking to the bottom of the fryer).
  • Leave to cook for about 7 minutes. The breadcrumbs should be crisp and have a nice golden color.
  • Take them out and serve with French fries and tartar sauce.
  • Enjoy your meal!
