If you love the gastronomic riches of the sea, then don’t miss out on one of County Donegal’s specialities: Dulse! It’s an organic seaweed grown on the Algaran coast. Its unique taste makes it a perfect accompaniment to fish and salads!

A taste of Irish Dulse

Tasty seaweed!

Dulse is generally recognized by its red color! Rich in nutrients and energy, it has the advantage of developing a wide range of flavors when cooked. It can be discovered in many different ways: cooked, raw, flaked or chopped!

The Irish generally eat it as an accompaniment to fish, omelettes or salads… (not to mention delicious with bread and butter!). On the palate, expect full-bodied, strongly iodized aromas. It sometimes has a slightly peppery, nutty taste: the perfect balance to give your dishes a kick!

The icing on the cake: dulse is recognized as a natural remineralizer, rich in protein, iron, calcium and potassium.

You’ll easily find them for sale in the seaside fishmongers of County Donegal. What’s more, many local restaurants offer dishes made from this amazing seaweed!
