Crubeens are a typically Irish dish that may turn some people off! This is a specialty made from pigs’ feet, boiled and then fried in oil. A rather surprising meal, but one that doesn’t always meet with unanimous approval! The taste is far from being the issue, as the result is rather succulent: the appearance, on the other hand, may make some people shudder!
Let’s face it: Crubeens aren’t to be found just anywhere. They are traditionally served in local restaurants specializing in Irish cuisine. Few pubs offer them, due to the long preparation time.
Nevertheless, you can find the raw product quite easily at local markets. Many butchers offer them at very attractive prices!
Crubeen can generally be eaten by hand (the breading around it makes it a simple food to eat on the go). But it can also be a more trady dish, topped with sauce and only served in restaurants.
The taste isn’t too bad, provided you like pig’s trotters of course! Usually served with Mash Potaoe (Irish mashed potatoes).
