It’s a great Christmas classic, combining the sweetness of chocolate with the bitterness of the country’s most famous beer! You’ll find yourself enjoying them on Christmas Eve, in front of a cozy fire, with the family around. These truffles are gourmet, original and 100% Irish. What better way to spend a typical Emerald Isle Christmas, and impress your guests!

You may already know it, but the Irish have a habit of including Guinness in their traditional dishes! In Irish stew, cakes, ice cream… The national beer is cooked up in a variety of ways!

So it’s hardly surprising to come across the famous dark beer in a traditional chocolate truffle recipe! And we’ll spare you the suspense: the result is delicious (adults only, though)!

Easy to make, simply add a little of this beer to the classic truffle recipe. The result is a tasty, well-balanced treat.

The Guinness brewery itself offers its own truffles. They’re easy to find in the Guinness Sorehouse store, as well as in tourist stores like Irish Caroll’s Gift (which can be found just about anywhere in Ireland!).

It’s attractively priced and can be an original gift idea for your loved ones (whether it’s Christmas or not).

Recipe for Guinness truffles

Recipe: Truffles with Guinness

Ingredients

  • 100g liquid cream
  • 200g dark chocolate (or milk chocolate)
  • 50g butter
  • a can of Guinness
  • 30g cocoa powder

Preparation

  • Heat the cream in a saucepan over low heat.
  • Then add the chocolate pieces, butter and can of Guinness.
  • Blend until smooth and homogeneous.
  • Refrigerate for 3 hours.
  • When the time is up, pour the cocoa powder onto a plate.
  • Using your hands, shape the hardened mixture from the fridge into balls.
  • Roll in cocoa powder.
  • When there’s no more mixture left, let stand in the fridge before serving.
  • Enjoy your meal!
