The Republic of Ireland is cracking down on travelers who fail to comply with entry requirements. This morning, around 100 travelers arriving at Dublin Airport were taken to the police station. The reason: they could not present a negative PCR test along with their health pass. The fine was hefty—over €4000 for each offender!

Republic of Ireland Tightens Its Covid-19 Entry Rules

Remember to Present Your Health Pass and a Negative PCR Test!

There’s no joking around with the new Covid-19 rules in Ireland! Proof of this: more than 100 people were taken to the Garda (Irish police) to be fined for failing to present a negative PCR test taken within 48 hours.

Worse, among those involved, 5 presented fake tests.

This is taken very seriously, as the Irish police have fined passengers (including those who did not provide any PCR test) €4000 each—or face one month in prison if unable to pay! Such a steep penalty certainly acts as a strong deterrent!

So be very careful if you’re traveling to Ireland and make sure to follow all the requirements (which you can check here) to enter the country. The procedures are fairly straightforward but must be respected. To recap, here are the main points:

  • Present a valid health pass
  • Present a negative antigen test taken up to 48 hours before arrival, or a negative PCR test taken up to 72 hours before arrival
  • Complete the Passenger Locator Form

Zero tolerance now seems to be the policy in Ireland. So take your precautions and plan ahead! It would be a shame to be denied entry to Ireland over a simple oversight!
