Bad news for passengers scheduled to fly with Ryanair today. The ongoing pilots’ strike has forced the Irish airline Ryanair to cancel 24 flights planned for Friday, July 20, 2018, affecting routes exclusively between the UK and Ireland.

This strike comes right in the middle of the summer season and aims to protest against the working conditions imposed by management. The pilots’ demands are straightforward: better pay and easier access to their annual leave.

These demands are far from new in the home country of the yellow and blue low-cost airline.

For several years now, Ryanair staff have raised numerous concerns and complaints about their working conditions… Pilots, flight attendants, stewards, and airport personnel alike have voiced grievances that put management under pressure.

Regardless, this strike is expected to cause frustration among many holidaymakers and other travelers, although Ryanair has quickly moved to minimize the impact: “We regret the cancellation of these 24 flights on Friday. However, this only affects 4,000 of the 55,000 passengers scheduled on Ryanair flights across Europe that day. Furthermore, 90% of those 4,000 passengers have been able to secure alternative flights or have been refunded.
