Des amis fêtant la Saint Patrick

This year, it’s decided. Are you planning to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, but don’t want to miss out on the inevitable “Irish pub”? If you’d like to celebrate March 17th in the peace and quiet of your own home, away from the hustle and bustle of crowded streets and pubs, you’ve come to the right place! We’ve got some cool tips on how to have a truly Irish day!

1. Irish thou shalt consume

St. Patrick’s Day is all about indulging in the best of traditional Irish food and drink! And you don’t necessarily have to walk into an Irish pub to do it! All it takes is a little organization to bring the party right to your home!
So, for those who want to, feel free to buy a few typical Irish beers (Guinness, Kilkenny, Killian’s…etc), and bring along the ingredients needed to make an Irish trady dish!

Irish stew, bacon and cabbage, St Patrick’s Day cupcake, Guinness cake… Discover our recipes for Irish specialities for St Patrick’s Day, follow the guide and treat yourself!

Enjoy with friends at home, accompanied by the Irish beverage of your choice!

2. Relax in front of classic Irish films

Still in the spirit of cocooning at home, why not relax in front of a good film about Ireland? There’s plenty to choose from, including PS I Love You, Au nom du Père, The Quiet Man, Sing Street and “My Left Foot”!

Bring a little Ireland into your living room! Don’t forget the special St. Patrick’s Day popcorn, the plaid, and a good Irish tea, and you’ll be at the top of your game for Irish-style binge-watching!

3. Thou shalt listen to Irish music

The Chieftains, The Dubliners, The Pogues… How about playing some traditional Irish music in your own home? It’s the perfect way to turn your home into an Irish pub for the occasion, without having to step outside!

If you’re more in the mood for modern music, don’t hesitate to check out U2, The Cranberries or The Script, 100% Irish bands to listen to all day long! And if you’re not too keen on programming your own music, we invite you to listen to our partner radio station“Eirewave“, which offers a succession of top titles, 100% Irish!

4. You will read great Irish authors

If you’ve had enough of binge-watching and Irish music, why not pick up a book of Irish literature? It’s up to you to choose your author: let’s face it, there are plenty of Irish writers to choose from! Oscar Wilde, James Joyce, William Butler Yeats, Samuel Beckett, George Bernard Shaw…

It’s up to you to choose the mood and the story! It’s a great way to spend a quiet, literary moment under the comforter, while nibbling on a handful of vinegar potato chips! A typically Irish indulgence!

5. Dress in green

If you feel like taking the Irish St. Patrick’s Day tradition to the extreme, don’t hesitate to dress all in green, the official party color ! Dress up as a leprechaun, wear a festive hat, put make-up on your cheeks and enter a contest with friends for the best St. Patrick’s Day costume!

One thing’s for sure: if you follow these 5 commandments, your Saint Patrick’s Day will be 100% Irish! We promise: you won’t miss the Irish pub!
