Did you know? The series Sherlock & Daughter filmed some of its scenes at Powerscourt House, in County Wicklow, Ireland. The series arrived on HBO Max in the UK and Ireland on 5 November 2026. To discover the location, head to Enniskerry, south of Dublin!
Powerscourt House, an Irish setting for Sherlock Holmes
An investigation that begins in 1896
David Thewlis plays an ageing Holmes. His investigation takes a personal turn when Amelia, a young woman who believes she is his daughter, comes to find him. The eight episodes were first broadcast in the United States, says creator Brendan Foley. Its release on HBO Max in the UK and Ireland does not confirm a broadcast in France.
The Irish Times covered the filming at Powerscourt in its 5 November edition. The series having been filmed on the estate does not guarantee access to the rooms used for filming. On site, the gardens offer the best way to discover the setting of the house.
What to see at Powerscourt on a day trip from Dublin
Terraces facing the Sugarloaf, then a separate waterfall
Start with the gardens at Powerscourt House. From the terraces, the view drops down towards the lake before rising to the Sugarloaf, whose conical summit stands out on the horizon. Below, the Japanese Garden offers a more intimate detour, away from the grand vistas of the façade.
If you also want to see Powerscourt Waterfall, plan a second stop: it is located at a separate site, with its own entrance. Before setting off, check the estate’s official website to confirm the opening times for both visits.
