We’ll tell you all about it!

Travelling to Ireland with children

Outdoor activities to keep them entertained

If there’s one advantage to traveling to Ireland, it’s its wild landscapes and extraordinary nature! In general, children love to explore the island: with its beaches, mountains and wide-open spaces, it’s a safe bet that they won’t get bored! Especially with the country’s countless ruined castles, as well as its prehistoric megaliths: dolmens, stone circles, cairns… There’s plenty to impress them with!

Don’t miss the chance to visit mythical places like Connemara, the Cliffs of Moher, the Giant’s Causeway…etc. These places are sure to please adults and children alike, with their unique shows!

Finally, there are plenty of sporting activities for the whole family to enjoy: boat trips, swimming on the beach (preferably in summer), hiking, fishing, surfing, rafting… There’s something for everyone!

Head into town for tailor-made attractions

In Ireland, fun is fun! And the island’s major cities are specialists in this field! That’s why we recommend the Viking Splash Tour in Dublin (an amphibious bus excursion, where you dress up like a Viking), or the Dublin Ghost Tour (another 100% spooky excursion to discover the city while shivering with fear! preferably for teenagers). Preferably for teenagers).

Dublin, Cork, Galway, Belfast and many other cities also boast a number of fascinating museums, which have totally revamped their exhibits to captivate the whole family! Interactive screens, videos, re-enactments with live characters… It’s all about capturing children’s attention, and leaving them with a head full of good times.

It’s also worth noting that Irish pubs can accept under-age children during the day… as long as you ask permission beforehand! Whether your children are teenagers or toddlers, they are generally accepted, and will be able to listen to traditional music groups. Please note, however, that children are asked to leave the premises after 9 p.m.: a rule that Irish pubs don’t play around with…

Irish food, perfect for the whole family

Of course, your children may be reluctant to swallow an Irish stew or enjoy a platter of Galway oysters. But rest assured, Ireland is a true specialist in fish and chips, burgers, boxty, Bangers and mashed potato (a sausage and mashed potato dish), and other simple, appetizing dishes.

Irish food is tasty and constantly reinventing itself. It also maintains a close link with finger food and junk food. The country’s many fast-food outlets and takeaways are a case in point!

Where to sleep in Ireland with your family?

Cosy establishments to suit all budgets!

Rest assured, there’s more than enough choice when it comes to accommodation in Ireland. And it’s all a question of desire, but also of budget. Here are the possibilities, ranked from least to most expensive:

  • camping: we keep things simple here. A la bonne franquette. Children love to pitch their tents, sleep in motorhomes and campervans. We’re not banking on optimal comfort, but the costs are more than reasonable, making it possible to visit Ireland without breaking the bank.
  • youth hostels: a good compromise for budget accommodation. This type of establishment offers collective accommodation: dormitories, double or single rooms. The more comfort you ask for, the higher the rate. Please note that the hostel offers a common lounge for all guests, as well as a shared kitchen.
  • bed and breakfast: the perfect way to stay with local people and enjoy an authentic experience! Irish breakfast is included in the overnight stay, and contact with your hosts will give you a taste of the art of Irish hospitality.
  • hotels: undoubtedly the most expensive solution, but also the most flexible. There’s nothing unusual here: we offer rooms that can communicate with those of your children. Breakfast can be included in the overnight stay. Maximum comfort and an ultra-professional welcome. Good for children, but certainly a little colder than the other options.
